In Memory Of

David Godfrey

David Godfrey

David passed away peacefully at home in Newport, Washington on December 19, 2013, at the age of 68.

He graduated from Iolani School and served in the United States Air Force.  He was a gifted designer, craftsman and superb master carpenter.  He had a keen sense of humor, treated all with integrity and respect, and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his mother Mary Lynne Godfrey of Honolulu, sister Barbee Ellen LeClair (Robert) of Newport, Washington, cousin Scott A. Hastings of San Rafael, California and his beloved dog "Mike".

Private services have been held.

Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.  Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at Sherman-knapp.com.

I remember David as a quiet, sensitive, considerate and gentle soul. It's a pity that we didn't stay in touch, because when I read in his obituary that he was a "gifted designer, craftsman, and superb master carpenter," I think we would have had a lot in common to share and discuss. Although I will always remember him as a  true gentleman, what will stand out most in my mind is the fact that he was a fellow member of Iolani's "own unofficial ROTC unit," as he and I had both dressed up in pseudo military gear one day to protest the consideration the school administration was giving to requiring students to wear school uniforms. So I salute you, David; may you rest in peace.

Leighton
