Kenneal Chun (13)

Steve's passing is sad to me as it is with all of our class members.  Though I have different memories of each classmates I have some of Steve having spent 13yrs at Iolani with him.  In the first days of kindergarten he became easily recognizable as on  of the biggest guys among us and remained so throughout our years in school.  I remember him as a quiet yet friendly and approachable guy who had a sense of humor all his own.  He became one of the outstanding athletes among us being able to play his sport of football into his college days.  As we went through Iolani I sort of felt a sense of awe about him in that regard.  He was able to be a solid student to compliment his athletic achievements.  He was able to leave Iolani with a firm grounding toward becoming a capable and responsible citizen, contributing the education and counselling of high school students.  That is to the credit of Steve as well as Iolani.  We should be  proud of our school and the members of our class who were able to develop themselves and contribute to our community.

After Iolani Steve and I had gone our separate ways but in the conversations we had on our occasional meeting over the years, he remained the same approachable person, reflecting quiet, gentle reassurance to me as he always had.  I will miss these conversations and his fellowship.
