Peter Sleight, 65, who retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture about five years ago as a specialist in human resource management, died Oct. 24, 2010 at the Capital Hospice in Arlington. He had lung cancer.

Mr. Sleight, an Alexandria resident, spent about 30 years with the federal government. He worked mostly for the USDA, at one point as a personnel ethics officer.

Peter Campbell Sleight, the son of a Navy officer, was born in Boston and completed high school in Hawaii. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and a graduate of Yale University. He was a member of a Yale group called the Pierson Pachyderms, named after Yale's Pierson College.

Survivors include a sister, Merrill Quast of Williamsburg, Va.
